Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has opened up on his team’s poor start to the season and has admitted the atmosphere at Old Trafford isn’t positive at the moment.

The Portuguese has admitted to preferring the atmosphere with the national team rather than that of his club Manchester United.

The Red Devils have endured a horrific start to the season, marking their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign. They sit 14th on the Premier League table, grabbing just eight out of a possible 21, in their seven league games played so far under Erik Ten Hag.

Things haven’t been great for the Reds outside of England either, with the team managing two draws in their two games played so far in the Europa League. They are currently ranked 21st place and face a great task if they are to gain automatic qualification in the competition.

Bruno Fernandes hasn’t been his sparkling best for the Red Devils so far. He is yet to find the back of the net in the ongoing campaign. Although he has created four assists, things haven’t appeared to click for the Portuguese yet as they have in his previous seasons. His poor form has also been coupled with disciplinary issues. He has been sent off twice in his last three appearances for his club.

The case has been the opposite for Bruno with the national team though. The Portugal national team has won their opening two campaigns in the ongoing Nations League, and the 30-year-old has contributed to two goals, scoring and assisting one goal each.

Bruno Fernandes on the atmosphere at Manchester United

Speaking to the press, the United skipper admitted his team’s bad start to the campaign has affected the mood around the club, and claimed the atmosphere with the national team is completely different.

Speaking on his stay with the national team, Bruno said: ”I’ve felt very at ease, the dynamics are good, the international continued. ‘I’m in my country, I speak my language and I have better food. “

Speaking further he said: ”I have demonstrated a good level in the national team. It’s a space where I feel good and I feel like I can enjoy my football at a very high level, due to the dynamics we have and the quality I have at my side.”

He also spoke of his desire to improve his form with his club after the international break.

“Making goals appear again because I’m a midfielder that scores a lot of goals and has over the years always shown a very high level of goals.” He said to the press.

‘I have to live up to those expectations and to my ‘standards. What I have been doing is not at all what I want for this season because I haven’t scored at the club yet. I hope that once I get there, I can score and help my club get back to winning ways and be at a good level.” he added.

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag, will hope the midfielder can return to his best form as soon as possible. Bruno Fernandes will be key in turning the season around and solidifying his position in the dugout following calls for him to be sacked.

Next for Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United after the international break would be a tricky visit from Brentford to Old Trafford in what would be a must-win game for the Red Devils.
