Former Sheffield United Star George Baldock has been found dead in a swimming pool in Greece where he plied his trade.

The 31-year-old Panathinaikos defender’s body was discovered in the communal pool, by the owner of the Villa where he stayed at Glyfada, Greece.

It was later reported his body had been in the water for several hours before he was found.

The defender was due to be in Greece’s national team for their Nations League tie against England but he missed out due to an injury that saw him ruled out of games.

His period at Sheffield United saw him earn the nickname ‘Furious George’ due to his aggressive and combative style of play. He enjoyed the best period of his career with the club, as he was a popular figure among the fans and his teammates.

Baldock moved to Panathinaikos following the end of his stint at Sheffield United.

International career

A Greek international, Baldock opted to play for Greece at the international level. He made his debut for the side back in 2022 when he was called up by coach Gus Poyet for the team’s UEFA Nations League fixtures.
