Brighton Vs Tottenham Hotspur Premier League matchday seven clash ended in a five-goal thriller at the American Express Stadium.
The Seagulls bounced back from two goals down in the first half to complete a stunning second-half comeback against Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.
Goals from Yakuba Minteh, Georgino Rutter, and Danny Welbeck saw the hosts overturn Tottenham’s two-goal lead in eighteen minutes in the second half.

Tottenham started the game on the front foot and recorded their first big chance in the 7th minute.

Brennan Johnson breaks goal deadlock for Tottenham Hotspur
After countless attempts, Brennan Johnson finally put the away side in the lead. Baleba was robbed of the ball by Udogie and Maddison who then found Solanke. The summer arrival from Bournemouth spotted the unsettled defence and threaded a lovely pass through the lines for Johnson, who tucked it into the bottom corner with a first-time strike.
It was a deserved lead for the Ange Postecoglou-led side after multiple attempts.
The visitors found a second immediately after Brennan Johnson’s goal. James Maddison scored a rebound from Timo Werner’s header to make it 2-0 but the goal was subjected to a long VAR check before being disallowed for offside.
James Maddison doubles lead for Tottenham Hotspur
Seven minutes after the half-hour, the Lilywhites nailed home their second goal. Brighton were caught on a quick counter-attack. Breaking down the left, Timo Werner had a chance to shoot on goal but chose to pass to James Maddison.
The England star, left unmarked on the edge of the penalty area, fired on goal. Brighton’s goalkeeper stretched and had his hands on the ball but his effort was not enough to stop it from wriggling into the back of the net. The two goals saw the visitors go into the break with the lead.
Brighton mounts a stunning comeback in the second half
Brighton fought back dramatically in the second half. Just three minutes into the restart, Yakuba Minteh halved the deficit for the hosts to restore comeback hopes. The Gambian winger was left unmarked in the box to thrash home a cross from Kaoru Mitoma.
Ten minutes after Minteh’s lifeline goal, Georgino Rutter was on target for the hosts to peg Tottenham to a dramatic 2-2 draw.
Dany Welbeck completes stunning comeback
After netting the second to tie the score, it was not long before Brighton found a third and completed a stunning comeback.
Former Arsenal and Man United forward Danny Welbeck was left unmarked to nod home a chip from Rutter and make it 3-2.
From two goals down, Brighton scored thrice on a stretch in 18 minutes to turn the game around. It was an incredible comeback but one which left the game on a nervy ending. The hosts withstood late pressure to salvage all three points in the five-goal thriller.
The win has seen Brighton climb to 6th place in the Premier League table with 12 points from seven matches. They have now recorded three wins, three draws, and a loss.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have dropped to 9th on the table with 10 points and the defeat being their third in the season. They will return to action on Saturday, October 19, 2024, against West Ham United while Brighton play Newcastle United on the same date.
