Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed that the Blues can’t compete with Manchester City and Arsenal.
In the post-match conference after Chelsea defeated Gent 4-2 to kick start their European Conference League Campaign, Enzo Maresca said, “I really don’t think we can compete with City or Arsenal. I really don’t think that because we are not ready.”
“The reason is that City has worked with the same manager for nine years and Arsenal for five years. If you want to compete for big things, you need that time.”
“After Arsenal beat PSG, they asked Luis Enrique, and he said the same thing: Arsenal have had the same manager for five years and them only a year and a half.”
“Imagine us, only three months. So it’s a huge difference. So I am really convinced we cannot compete with those clubs.”
Also, the manager has rubbished the fact that Chelsea are capable of winning a major trophy this season.
In addition, he also wants the club fans to be extremely patient and trust the process, as they are looking at staying on top of the game till the end.
He said, “The target is to improve and slowly, slowly to get closer to those clubs, but at the moment we are not ready for that, there is no timeframe because you can continue to improve and add solutions to things always.”
“And the only part that I can control is the football side. All the noises around the club are something I cannot control.”
“I don’t know if it is real noise or not; I don’t care, to be honest. The focus for me is about the coaching session ahead of Nottingham Forest.”
The former Leicester City manager, Maresca, has a good start to his Chelsea managerial career with seven wins in 10 matches in all competitions even though a lot of fans doubted the manager during Chelsea pre season matches.
The Blues have scored 27 goals in all competitions. They are currently in the 4th place in the Premier League table, with two points behind Liverpool.
The Chelsea fans will be expecting a win to close the gap between them and first-placed Liverpool when the club play against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
The Blues have lost just a match in the Premier League. They are playing with a lot of intensity and pace coupled with the fact that scoring of goals doesn’t seem to be a problem for the team.
