Manchester United players to take 25% Pay Cut after Champions League Failure

Failing to qualify for the Champions League in 2024/25 is proving costly for Manchester United as they face a financial hit.

While winning the FA Cup secured them a spot in the Europa League, the Champions League remains the most lucrative competition.

As a result of missing out on a top-four finish in the Premier League, the players are set to experience a decrease in wages.

In the 2021/22 season, the wage bill dropped from £384m to £331m when United played in the Europa League instead of the Champions League.

A similar deduction this season would see their wage bill decrease to £285m, similar to what it was in the 2019/20 season when they also competed in the Europa League.

Consequently, Manchester United players will face a 25% reduction in their salaries due to the team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League.

This decision will result in substantial pay cuts for the squad, with top earners affected the most.

Here’s the breakdown of the affected players’ new weekly wages:

  1. Casemiro: £262,500 (down from £350,000)
  2. Varane: £255,000 (down from £340,000)
  3. Rashford: £225,000 (down from £300,000)
  4. Martial: £187,500 (down from £250,000)
  5. Mount: £187,500 (down from £250,000)
  6. Fernandes: £180,000 (down from £240,000)
  7. Antony: £150,000 (down from £200,000)
  8. Sancho: £150,000 (down from £200,000)
  9. Maguire: £142,500 (down from £190,000)
  10. Shaw: £112,500 (down from £150,000)
  11. Eriksen: £112,500 (down from £150,000)
