Serie A giant Napoli have taken away Victor Osimhen famous No. 9 jersey, and it has been given to new signing Romelu Lukaku after he was removed from the Napoli squad for the 2024-25 season.
It was revealed that the relationship between Napoli and Osimhen is currently broken because of his request to leave the club and the transfer saga during the transfer deadline day on August 30.
The striker won’t be playing a single match for Napoli again this season, as he won’t be in the team Serie A squad for the 2024-25 season.
During the transfer deadline day, Osimhen was on the verge of completing a move to Al Ahli after the Saudi Arabian giant agreed a transfer fee of €80 million with Napoli over Osimhen.
Also, Al Ahli offered the player a four-year contract coupled with a €30 million yearly salary. However, the deal failed to materialize after it was revealed that Al Ahli could only sign either Ivan Toney or Victor Osimhen.
Al Ahli chose Ivan Toney over the Nigerian striker because of a lower transfer fee, and Toney had already given the green light that he wanted to play for Al Ahli.
Chelsea stood till the end at the negotiation table with Napoli to find a better agreement for the club and the striker.
The West London team offered a lesser wage structure for Osimhen, but the Nigerian showed no interest in reducing his current wages of €295,769.
The Nigerian striker will explore other transfer markets that are yet to be closed to secure a move away from Napoli.
The Saudi Arabia Pro League Soccer transfer market ends on October 6, 2024. Napoli may still get offers from the oil-rich clubs for the talented striker.
