Manchester United have completed the signing of Bayern Munich centre-back Matthijs de Ligt after a long-term interest in the Dutch defender.
Pending the player’s medicals, de Ligt will sign a five-year contract that will end on June 30, 2029, with the option to extend his contract for another 12 months.
The player transfer to Manchester United is hugely welcomed by United fans, who saw their team concede a lot of goals last season. De Ligt is well known for being an experienced defender with the capacity to win aerial balls.
With Leno Yoro being sidelined for three months because of injury, Erik Ten Hag will pair both Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt. This will send Jonny Evans and Harry Maguire down the pecking order.
Also, Manchester United could listen to any offer that comes for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. Both players won’t be getting enough playing time at the club this coming season.
The player’s addition to the Manchester United squad will change the club’s playing style. Last season, the Manchester United manager claimed the reason he doesn’t play the same way he does at Ajax was because he doesn’t have the resources.
He said, “The football that we played at Ajax, we will never play here. The Ajax style of football is very characteristic, and here we will be playing a lot more directly. And that is what we have players for, especially at the forefront of the pitch.”

Mazraoui’s move to Manchester United has seen Aaron Wan Bissaka join West Ham United for a transfer fee worth £15 million.
Mazraoui’s offensive style of play made him a transfer target for Erik Ten Hag.
Both De Ligt and Mazraoui will be in contention to play for Manchester United against Fulham in their Premier League opener.
The Manchester United board are not done with the transfer window. They want to bring in a left back and a centre midfielder.
The club are still negotiating with Paris Saint-Germain over the signature of Manuel Ugarte. However, both clubs are currently apart on the transfer fee.
If the Red Devils sign more players for Erik Ten Hag, it is a must for the Dutch manager to deliver more silverware for the club next season.
