Newcastle United Sign Nigerian-Danish Striker William Osula From Sheffield United

Newcastle United have announced the signing of Nigerian-Danish forward William Osula from Sheffield United.

A club statement from the Magpies confirmed the signing of the 21-year-old from the Championship side.

Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe described Osula as a top talent with great potential to be a key player for the team.

“William is a talented young forward with all the attributes to be an exciting player for Newcastle United.

“We have watched his development closely and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with him in this next step in his career,” Howe said.

Reacting to his move to the club, Osula expressed his excitement to join the club.

“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a big club, a great club, so I’m very happy for the opportunity to join Newcastle United,” he said.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Osula is joining on a deal worth £10m plus add-ons. Details of his contract with the club has yet to be revealed. Meanwhile, he is the Magpies’ sixth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Miodrag Pivas, Odysseas Vlachodimos, John Ruddy, Lloyd Kelly, and Lewis Hall.

William Idamudia Daugaard Osula, popularly known as William Osula, is a professional footballer from Denmark, who played as a forward for Sheffield United but is set for a new chapter with Newcastle United.

The Copenhagen-born Danish youth player began his youth career with Copenhagen before joining Sheffield United youth in 2018. He played for four years with Sheffield United Youth before graduating into the club’s first team in 2022.

Osula has played for only two clubs -Sheffield United and Derby County – in his career since his 2022 breakout campaign with Sheffield United. Osula made his first senior club career appearance for Sheffield United on March 16, 2022, coming on from the bench in the first minute of stoppage time in the Blades’s barren draw against Blackpool

Struggling for game time after transfer to the club’s first team, he was sent on a loan spell to Derby County, where he made 29 league appearances for the club in the English second tier.

On January 16, 2023, he was back at Sheffield United and would score his first senior club career goal during an FA Cup victory over Gillingham.

International career

William Osula has yet to make an appearance for Denmark’s senior national team. He played for the team’s U-19s in 2022, recording one appearance before being called up for U-23 in 2023. The 21-year-old has one goal for the Danish Olympics squad.

William Osula made seven Championship appearances for Sheffield United from 2021 to 2022. Following the team’s promotion to the Premier League last season, he racked up 21 appearances in the English top flight and three in other competitions.

Overall, he has tallied 31 appearances for the club, scoring three goals. While on loan at Derby County, he made 21 appearances for the club in all competitions to take his overall club career tally to 54.
