Columbus Crew Sign River Plate Right Back Marcelo Andres Herrera on Loan

The MLS club, Columbus Crew, have completed the signing of River Plate right-back Marcelo Andres Herrera on loan until the 2025–26 season. 

The loan contract pulled by Columbus Crew also includes an option to sign the player on a permanent deal. 

Herrera, who represented the Argentina national team in the 2020 Summer Olympics, will be the second Columbus signing in the heart of the defense this season. 

They have completed the signing of Dejuan Jones from the New England Revolution. Jones is also a defender who commands a huge aerial ability.

Upon the completion of the loan deal, the Columbus Crew general manager, Issa Tall, revealed the kind of player Herrera is and how he is expected to impact the team.

He said, “Andrés is a talented player, recently helping one of South America’s most prestigious clubs lift multiple trophies.”

“He already has valuable experience at the club and international levels as he enters the prime of his career. His addition strengthens our roster as we head into this important stretch of the season, and we are excited to see the impact Andrés can have on our team.”

Columbus Crew are still very active in the transfer window, and they are looking forward to bringing in more experienced players to the team.
