Clarity has finally dawned on the future of Angel Di Maria, as the attacker will remain at Benfica until June 2025.

The president of Benfica, Rui Costa, has confirmed that Di Maria will sign a new deal at the Portuguese club.

Angel Di Maria’s one-year contract which he signed with Benfica in July 2023, expired on June 30, 2024.

There was uncertainty over the Argentine’s future, having retired from international football following the 2024 Copa America.

Some reports claimed that Di Maria could also call time on his football career, however, those speculations have been squashed following the recent comments by the president of Benfica.

Questioned over the future of Angel Di Maria pertaining to Benfica, Rui Costa said: “Di Maria will continue here at Benfica and sign a new deal”.

An agreement has been reached between Benfica and Di Maria, with the 36-year-old expected to remain at The Eagles until the summer of 2025.

Having retired from the national team, Angel Di Maria will be fully focused on club football, as the Estádio da Luz aim for major honors in the 2024/25 season.

Di Maria is currently in his second stint at Benfica, having first played for the club between 2007 and 2010.
