Despite his legendary career, Toni Kroos has retired not counting the UEFA European Championship trophy among his trophies as Germany crashed out of Euro 2024 in the quarter-final stage.
It was indeed a sad day for Kroos. After the match, he shared a post from Sascha Breese – one of the board members of Toni Stiftung (his nonprofit organization) – declaring it was a sad day in his career.
Recall the Real Madrid legend returned from retirement for the last dance in international football in 2024. He was included in Germany’s national team squad for Euro 2024 and has been an integral part of the team throughout their campaign in the tournament. He started group-stage matches and was in action in the quarter-final loss to Spain on Friday, July 5, 2024.

Toni Kroos is a former German professional footballer, who played as a midfielder for Germany and top clubs in Europe. Regarded as one of the most prolific midfielders during his playing career, Kroos is retiring as the most successful German footballer of all time, having won 34 titles in club and international football. He was known for his surgically precise free-kicks and flexibility in the middle of the park.
Toni Kroos began his career back in 1997 with Greifswalder SC, playing for the club’s youth teams. He joined Hansa Rostock Academy in 2002 before switching to Bayern Munich Academy in 2006, where he will finally make his first senior club appearance.
In 2007, Kroos was juggled between Bayern Munich reserve team and the club’s first team before finally cementing his place in the senior side in 2008. He would go on to make 130 Bundesliga appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals in his 7-year spell.
After a heroic career with the Bundesliga giants, Kroos joined Real Madrid in La Liga where his career peaked. He spent the rest of his career with Los Blancos, making 306 La Liga appearances, and scoring 22 goals.

In his over-decade football career, Kroos had tallied a total of 737 club career appearances, scoring 67 goals. He made 205 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 25 goals in all competitions. Before his move to Real Madrid, he was temporarily loaned to Bayer Leverkusen, where he made 48 appearances, scoring 10 goals. At Real Madrid, the 32-year-old tallied 465 appearances in all competitions with 28 goals. His Euro 2024 quarter-final appearance for Germany against Spain was his 117th international appearance.
