In an evening filled with a scarcity of goals, England settled for a draw against Slovenia, as their underwhelming display at Euro 2024 continues.

Despite owning much of the possession, Gareth Southgate’s side couldn’t display superiority over their opposition.

Saka’s First Half Goal For England Against Slovenia Chalked Off

They put the ball into the back of the net in the 21st minute through Bukayo Saka, following a nice intricate move between Declan Rice and Phil Foden.

However, the goal was chalked off after Foden, who squared the ball to Saka, was deemed to have been in an offside position when he received the pass from Rice.

The opportunity was England’s biggest opportunity in the first 45, with Slovenia putting up impenetrable in the opening half bar the offside goal conceded, which was disallowed as earlier indicated.

In the second period, Gareth Southgate made one quick alteration after the restart, with Kobbie Mainoo coming on for Conor Gallagher.

Two minutes before the hour mark, Foden sent a cross into the box off a corner, with John Stones getting on the end of it and directing it at goal.

Stones’ header was cleared off the line by Benjamin Sesko, with the ball falling to Bukayo Saka who tried an overhead kick but the referee blew his whistle for a foul.

In the 71st minute, Cole Palmer came on to replace Bukayo Saka, with the former coming on to make his debut in the tournament.

Fourteen minutes before the end of normal time, England also came close to going ahead, after Declan Rice drove toward the box, before playing a one-two with Foden and subsequently dashing into the 18-yard-box.

Rice smashed a desperate attempt towards goal on the half volley, with the ball sailing past the post.

Slovenia introduced Josip Ilicic for Sesko in the 76th minute before Trent Alexander-Arnold replaced Kieran Trippier for England.

Impenetrable Slovenia, Incoherent England

Slovenia did much of the defending, with the Three Lions being on the ascendancy for large spells of the fixture.

Matjaz Kek brought on Jon Gonrec-Stankovic for Jan Mlankar 4 minutes before the expiration of regulation time, while Zan Celar came on for Andraz Sporar.

England made their final change in the 89th minute, bringing on Anthony Gordon for Phil Foden, while Jure Balkovec entered the fray for Erik Janza in the first minute of stoppage time.

Slovenia will qualify as one of the tournament’s best third-place teams, while England head to the knockout stage as leaders in Group C with 5 points, having won 1 and drawn 2 of their group games.

The Three Lions are yet to turn up the heat at the tournament, with English fans worried and perturbed by their display thus far.

It will be interesting to see how both sides fare in the knockout stages of the 2024 European Championship, as that is the make-or-mar phase.

Denmark 0-0 Serbia

Two changes were made by either sides late on, with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic replacing Sasa Lukic for Serbia, while Yussuf Poulsen came on for Denmark in place of Christian Eriksen.
