Chelsea have confirmed the signing of highly-rated Brazilian youngster Estevao Willian from Palmeiras.
The Blues’ club statement confirming the addition of the prolific forward to the club’s array of young talents reads:
“Chelsea Football Club has agreed a deal to sign teenage forward Estevao Willian from Palmeiras, with the Brazilian to officially join Chelsea next summer.”
Estevao emerged as a top target for European clubs after a prolific outing both for Palmeiras and Brazil Youth. La Liga giants Barcelona were linked to a move for the player with Arsenal also mentioned in the race for the teenage attacking sensation.
Known for his speed and insane dribbling skills, including a knack for scoring goals, the 17-year-old was thrust into the spotlight in 2023 after he deservedly earned his promotion into Palmeiras first team.
He got off to a prolific start, cementing his place in the squad with 13 appearances in the Brazilian top flight. He found the back of the net twice and earned rave reviews for his contributions to the team.
Meanwhile, reports claimed Chelsea were on the verge of losing out on the race for the youngster before they suddenly stepped up proceedings as interest from rival European clubs began to soar.
The Blues quickly broker an agreement on personal terms with the player and proceeded into negotiations with Palmeiras.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Estevao had a €55m release clause on his contract and Chelsea were ready to trigger the deal to complete the move. As per multiple reports, the Blues will fork out a total of £56m for the deal which has now been sealed.
The Brazil U-17 star has been tipped to hit the peak of his football career following sterling individual performances for Palmeiras and the Brazil youth team.
He made 5 appearances for Brazil U-17, scoring thrice, and is a top candidate to transition to Brazil U-20 following his standout performances.
