Tottenham Hotspur manager, Jose Mourinho had assured that the club will sign one back-up striker and the recent name that came on the list is Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst.

Weghorst is reportedly on their wishlist as the great striker search continues for Spurs. According to reports, after being linked to Arkadiusz Milik, who will eventually join AS Roma on an initial loan, Spurs might be one step closer to finally landing the backup that Mourinho has been clamouring for.

The Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur tweeted out that the Wolfsburg striker is high on Tottenham’s wishlist, as Arsenal has also been sniffing around this summer as well.

Tottenham Hotspur looked to have ended interest in Arkadiusz Milik and Wout Weghorst is their prime target.

“In recent days it has been rumoured in England that Weghorst is in the interest of Tottenham. According to Tubantia, it is not a blank: Spurs has an eye on the striker of Wolfsburg and the Dutch national team, which has to compete with Harry Kane.”

Tubantia further reported that the striker also wants to join Premier League club especially Arsenal, but he won’t mind going to the North London club as well.

“It is no secret that Weghorst ever wants to play in the Premier League. This summer he was still associated with Arsenal,

“Would be nice, huh. It would be something. That fits in the perfect picture,” he responded at Bureau Sport.

In the article written by Tubantia’s staff, Fardau Wagenaar, who covered Weghorst when he was playing for Heracles Almelo, he confirmed that Tottenham are interested and talks have reportedly happened.

Has Tottenham Hotspur finally found a striker in Wout Weghorst

Kristof Terreur, a Belgian journalist who covers English football for Het Laatste Nieuws in a now-deleted tweet, said he expected Spurs to sign the striker. After deleting the tweet he retweeted the article.

Weghorst played 3,500 minutes last season and he is known as a pressing machine who wins balls in the air and generates good chances.

The 28-year-old has been quite productive at Wolfsburg, scoring 20 goals in 43 appearances for the German side last season and has 40 goals and 12 assists in 81 appearances overall since moving from AZ Alkmaar. He is also a sort of player, who can play with his back to the net and feed other players, but also press high and force turnovers to kick start a counter-attack.

Wout Weghorst. is a prolific goal scorer

Although Wolfsburg has a couple of strikers on their roster behind him. They include Daniel Ginczek and Admir Mehmedi, but Weghorst is the clear starter up top.

Ryan Taylor of The Express stated that Wolfsburg value Weghorst at around £27m after he re-emerged as a realistic target. The Bundesliga club is willing to sell at the right price. Having shown a willingness to accept a payment plan, Wolfsburg would not stand in his way of making the next step in his career.

The 28-year-old has scored 33 goals in 66 matches in the past two Bundesliga seasons and is now recognised as one of the most prolific strikers in Germany.
