Leicester City have announced the departure of Nigeri Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho from the club after the 2023-24 season.
The Foxes confirmed the departure of the Super Eagles forward and Manchester City Academy graduate in a statement shared on the club’s website.
Iheanacho will leave the club alongside two other players – Marc Albrighton and Dennis Prager – as also confirmed by the club.
Iheanacho burst into the limelight after his heroics in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He scored 7 goals in 8 appearances for the Golden Eaglets and was scouted to Manchester City Academy.
After graduating from Manchester City Academy, he joined Manchester City’s first team and scored 22 Premier League goals in 46 appearances for the club.
He left the club in 2017 and joined Leicester City where he would continue his career for seven years before his departure.
The 27-year-old.made 173 Premier League appearances for Leicester, scoring
35 goals. He tallied 232 appearances, scoring 64 goals in all competitions with 33 assists.
His honours with the Foxes include an FA Cup trophy, Community Shield, and the EFL Championship.
Before Kelechi Iheanacho’s Leicester City exit, Business Day reported Leicester City were ready to offer the Nigeria international a new contract but the FIFA U-17 World Cup winner was eyeing an exit from the club and was set to turn down advances by the club.
In the just-concluded campaign, Iheanacho made 23 Championship appearances for the Foxes, scoring 5 goals. He has been linked to a move to Aston Villa with Unai Emery reportedly interested in signing him as a backup striker to Ollie Watkins.
