It appears Thiago Silva, Marc Cucurella and Marcus Bettinelli are interested in going into coaching when they retire from football.

The trio is currently working closely with the Professional Footballers Association (PFA), with the union running a bespoke UEFA B coaching course.

It is unknown if they have completed the courses and have earned the licenses, however, they should be able to do so in about a month.

This will enable them to gradually move up the ladder in terms of the license they hold, with the UEFA Pro License being the highest coaching certification available in Europe.

It generally follows the completion of the “B” and “A” licenses. The Pro License is required for anyone keen on managing a football club in the top flight of any European nation’s league system permanently.

The UEFA A Licence is one level below the UEFA Pro Licence and it gives room for holders to handle youth teams up to age 18.

Additionally, holders of that license can handle reserve teams (also known as ‘B’ teams) for top-flight clubs, and men’s professional second-tier clubs.

The UEFA B License is one level beneath the UEFA A Licence and allows holders to be head coaches of men’s amateur clubs, youth teams up to age 16, and assistant coaches for professional clubs.

Chelsea Stars Alongside Thiago Silva Continue Pursuit For UEFA B Coaching License

The B License is what Thiago Silva, Marc Cucurella, and Marcus Bettinelli are making moves towards getting and they were pictured with players of Chelsea’s post-16 football programs.

Silva is at the twilight of his career, and he exited Chelsea at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Thiago Silva, 39, will return to boyhood club Fluminense on July 10, 2024, having joined the club on a free transfer.

The former Paris Saint Germain man is expected to retire in the coming years and coaching is expected to be his next primary focus.

Marc Cucurella, 25, is already planning for the future, with the Spaniard also interested in coaching.

He joined Chelsea on August 5, 2022, from Brighton for a fee of €65 million, and it will be fascinating to see what the future holds for him.

Marcus Bettinelli, 31, is the third-choice goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, and he also appears to be interested in venturing into coaching.

The Englishman is taking time to get his badges, and hopefully, he will be able to do exploits in coaching.

Bettinelli joined Chelsea on a free transfer on July 28, 2021, with the goalie making just 1 appearance for the Blues since his arrival.

Coaching is dynamic and it is a known phenomenon that not all great players become great coaches.

Anyway, coaching is a herculean job, often described as one that is basically about hiring and firing.

They bear the brunt of errors made by the players and assume responsibility for the losses of their respective teams.

Coaches also get an equal amount of praise when they can galvanize their team to success.

Hopefully, Thiago Silva, Marc Cucurella, and Marcus Bettinelli will become great coaches in years to come.
