Mauricio Pochettino has given a damning verdict of his Chelsea side following their humiliation against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.

Pochettino watched his side as they suffered 5-0 defeat in North London, courtesy of a goal by Leandro Trossard, and a brace by Ben White and ex-Chelsea player, Kai Havertz.

Mauricio Pochettino whilst speaking after the encounter criticized his Chelsea set-up, lambasting them for losing their guard when they have their back against the wall.

He said: “We are showing this inconsistency and that is why we are where we are.

“We are able to have an amazing performance [against Man City] and then one like this. When we have bad days, we are so bad.”

He indicated that his side were impressive at Wembley against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final.

However, the manner in which they lost against the Gunners left much to be desired.

Pochettino added: “It’s difficult to talk. We are talking after last season in the same way.

“We put in a fantastic performance at Wembley and then today, you can lose a game at Arsenal but in the way we competed, why one day, three days ago, and then today in this way?

“For the circumstance, we needed to make changes for different reasons. Then it is about consistency.”

    Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino was appointed manager of Chelsea on July 1, 2023, and his contract runs until June 30, 2025.

The Argentine has taken charge of 45 matches as boss of the side, winning 22, drawing 9, and losing 14.

He is yet to win silverware in England, having managed Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

Pochettino was lauded for his ability to develop talents, but that hasn’t been the case in his first season at Stamford Bridge, except for the growth of Cole Palmer which can be attributed to his impressive coaching of the young Englishman.

The Blues lost out in the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool 1-0 despite being in a comfortable position across moments throughout the game.

Additionally, Mauricio Pochettino was also aiming for another final, but his side buckled to Manchester City in the dying embers of the FA Cup clash at Wembley on Sunday, April 20, 2024.

They lost 1-0 to the defending champions, courtesy of an 84th-minute strike by Bernardo Silva.

Pochettino has inputted a lauded pattern of play at the club, however, finishing has been a major Achilles heel for the team.

Defensively, they also break apart with ease, giving teams enough room to come at them and score goals with reckless abandon.

Chelsea definitely will be planning a massive overhaul in the summer, with veteran defender Thiago Silva also exiting the team at the end of the season.
