Gavi Ruled Out of The Rest of 2023/24 Season as Barcelona Confirm Devastating Injury Blow

Barcelona youngster Gavi has been ruled out of the 2023/24 season as Barcelona confirmed a nightmare update on his injury.

We reported earlier that Gavi picked up a knee issue during Spain final 2024 Euro Qualifiers match against Georgia on Sunday, November 19, 2023.

It was a sad moment for the fast-rising youngster as he limped off the field in tears following the injury.

There were projections Gavi must have torn his ACL due to the injury and could be sidelined for the rest of the season but there were still air of optimism as they await an official statement from the club following medical assessment.

Meanwhile, it was all grim for Gavi as he was spotted arriving back at Barcelona on crutches further deepening fears of the severity of the injury.

Now, Barcelona have confirmed the 19-year-old has actually torn his ACL and will undergo surgery.

Barcelona club statement reads;

“The player has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.

“Test carried out on Monday morning on the first team player Gavi have shown that he has a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus.

“The player will have surgery in the coming days after which a new medical update will be released.

Barcelona have subjected further updates on Gavi’s injury to further medical examination. However, sources close to the player have revealed Gavi is ruled out of the rest of the season.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Gavi will miss 7-9 months of action for Barcelona literally implying he is out of the season.

“Gavi has torn his ACL and the meniscus of his knee is also affected.

“He will be out for 7-9 months, his season is over — further tests confirm.

“Terrible news for Barcelona and Spain… get well soon, ánimo Gavi!

Futballnews understand Barcelona have been unnerved by Gavi’s injury. According to Transfer Live, Barcelona have fumed at the decision of Spain national team coach Luis de La Fuente to start Gavi in the dead rubber 2024 Euro Qualifiers match against Georgia after he heavily rotated the squad and drop nine players to the bench.

Spain ran out 3-1 winners over Georgia with one of the goalscorers Ferran Torres dedicating his goal to Gavi after the latter was subbed off in the first half due to the injury.
