Luka Modric is on the verge of moving away from Real Madrid after the player’s agent declared that he’s open to joining the Saudi Arabia Pro League if preferably offer comes.
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder could see his era at Real Madrid come to an end after 12 years if he decides to join the fast-rising Middle East League.
The one-time Ballon d’Or winner is undoubtedly one of the best midfielders of all time judging by his outstanding twelve years career with the Spanish powerhouse.
During the summer transfer window, Luka Modric declined several offers from Major League Soccer and Saudi Arabia Pro League in other to pen a new deal with the 14-time European champions.
However, despite his stay at Real Madrid, Modric has been primarily a bit-part player making just four La Liga starts so far this season. Therefore, there have been reports that he could move to Saudi Arabia.
Speaking to reporters about the player’s future, Luka Modric’s agent Borja Couce announced that his client would be glad to listen to such a move.
He said; “This summer there was interest in Modric (from Saudi Arabia) to sign him. The player has several offers, from a club from the capital and another club”.
He added, “Modric is currently thinking about Real Madrid, but the idea of him moving to the Saudi Pro League is possible if the offer is suitable”.
Luka Modric has rejected the idea of a move away from the Spanish capital as early as January, having talked openly and honestly about his frustrations towards his limited game time under Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti.
The Croatian captain has won five Champions Leagues during his spell at the Santiago Bernabeu and was awarded the Ballon d’Or for his extraordinary performances for both club and country in 2018, becoming the eighth Real Madrid player to win the prestigious award.
Several reports have recently linked Luka Modric to the likelihood of following the footsteps of former Real Madrid legends Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, who are now plying their trade in the Gulf State on big money contracts.
Former Real Madrid teammate Benzema put pen to paper on a three-year contract with Al Ittihad worth £516 million, while Ronaldo is currently earning £177 million a year to ply his trade at Al Nassr.
The reason why Real Madrid might allow Luka Modric to leave in January
The Spanish giant are currently working on transforming the club into a new era. The departure of long-serving defensive midfielder Casemiro to Manchester United last season was a clue to real Madrid’s squad plans. They are only focused on a younger generation.
Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde have recently become a crucial part of the team which is now built around burgeoning youngster and summer signing from Borussia Dortmund Jude Bellingham.
Due to the surplus in the midfield, Eduardo Camavinga has featured mostly at left-back this season, although, all the aforementioned players are presently battling with injury crisis.

Modric could be set for a bumper payday if he decides to move to the Middle East. He could joined the elite list of high-profile European footballers on a jumbo paycheck from Saudi clubs.
