Many Premier League clubs had been punished severely for failing to comply with the rules and regulations of the English Football Association.
The major means of punishment had been points deduction. Recently Everton suffered a 10-point deduction that had put them into the relegation zone.
However, Everton were not the first club and wouldn’t be the last to receive points deduction as punishment for breaching FA rules.
In future, Manchester City and Chelsea may join the list if they are found guilty of financial fair play violations.
These are the football clubs that had suffered points deduction from illegal activities on and off the pitch.
1. Derby County (21 points)
The former Premier League team was hit by 12 points deduction that sent them into the foot of the Championship for poor administration and mismanagement of funds.
Two months after the first deduction, extra nine points were deducted from the Rams.
The Current manager of Birmingham, Wayne Rooney, who was the manager of Derby County then couldn’t help the club from relegating to League One (English third tier league), after the points deduction.
2. Bury (12 points)
In 2019-2020 season, it was confirmed that Bury will begin the League one campaign with 12 points deduction.
Having gotten promotion from the League two, the club was faced with unpaid debt which was widely discussed about in the England court.
After continuous struggle the club got expelled from the EFL.
3. Portsmouth (9 points)
In 2009-10 season, the former Premier League team suffered a horrible financial problem failing to pay its staffs and players for couple of months.
The club went ahead to change its ownership three times before the month of February 2010.
The Football club failed to find a owner before the deadline of February 25, 2010 that was set by the Premier League football association.
On March 17, 2010, it was confirmed that Portsmouth will be going to the Championship after nine points deduction.
4. Luton Town (30 points deduction)
At the start of the 2008-2009 season when Luton Town got into the Premier League, they were hit by 30 points deduction.
The club got hit by 20 points deduction for leaving their administration status without proper discussion with the creditors.
In addition, a 10 point deduction was imposed on the team for poor financial management in terms of the club’s transfer dealings.
5. Leeds United (15 points)
In 2007-08 season, the football club got a 15 points deduction from failing to agree to a company voluntary agreement with its creditors and they were therefore put up for expulsion vote.
