Andy Townsend has made an interesting reveal into how Real Madrid players are paid and shockingly it isn’t monthly or even weekly.

Los Merengues are arguably the biggest club in the world, and as such they are financially buoyant to handle the salaries of their players.

Anyway, Andy Townsend speaking on talkSPORT made an interesting reveal about how players of the Spanish side are paid.

Townsend expressed that he was told by Mikel Owen that Real Madrid players are paid just twice a year.

He claimed that the money will expectedly be massive but the pay cheque comes just two times in a year.

Andy Townsend said: “The Real Madrid boys – I know because Michael Owen told me this – when you sign for Real Madrid they only get paid, I think, twice a year. Twice a year, the Madrid boys!

The Irishman added: “I was going to say it’s a fair old lump that comes flying in twice a year. But I’m pretty sure they only get paid twice a year.”

This supposedly implies that Jude Bellingham, who has a contract running until 2029, will based on this metric be paid about 12 times throughout his current deal.

Bellingham joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund on July 1, 2023, for a fee of €103 million.

Meanwhile, the player Andy Townsend used in making his judgments, Michael Owen, joined Real Madrid from Liverpool on August 13, 2004, for a fee of €12 million.
