The 2023 FIFA Club World Cup will take place for the first time in Saudi Arabia and it will see Manchester City amongst others battle it out.

In order to determine the world champion, the tournament puts the winners of the continental tournaments from each of FIFA’s major confederations against one another.

FIFA has faced criticism for their lack of preparation for past championships, but in anticipation of a number of changes for the 2025 edition, they are taking a chance on more conflicts with clubs.

The 2023 edition will mark the end of the present format, with significant additions slated for the following two years.

As part of Saudi Arabia’s ambition to host the FIFA World Cup in 2030, FIFA relocated the FIFA Club World Cup to the country for the first time ever in 2023.

Recall we reported that FIFA released 2023 FIFA Club World Cup draw with European champions Manchester City knowing their opponents enroute to the final.

Champions of Europe, Manchester City, will make their tournament debut alongside Egypt’s Al Ahly, South American champions Fluminense, and hosts Al Ittihad.

The Brazilian team (Fluminense) was confirmed on Saturday as the last team to guarantee their place in Jeddah.

What is The FIFA Club World Cup?

The FIFA Club World Cup is an international men’s association football competition organized by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the sport’s global governing body.

When it was first held in 2000, it was then known as the FIFA Club World Championship.

Due to a number of circumstances surrounding the 2001 tournament cancellation—chief among them being the demise of FIFA’s marketing partner International Sport and Leisure (ISL)—it was not held from 2001 to 2004.
