Edinson Cavani, 36, revealed that his previous successes don’t count as the Argentine side strives to win South America’s most prestigious club competition.

Speaking about the final which would be played at Maracana stadium on Saturday, Cavani said: “The past is irrelevant and we’re only thinking about what we can do now, in the present.”

“There are many things that contribute to the fact that this will be the most important game that I’ve played in.”

The former United player also admitted that the expectation on the Buenos Aires giants would be high because of their standing in South American football.

Edinson Cavani also revealed that the club are the second-most successful club in the history of the Copa Libertadores.

Recall that we reported that Edinson Cavani terminated his contract with Spanish side Valencia to join Boca Juniors in the summer.

The 36-year-old Uruguayan joined the Brazilian club as a free agent and penned down a two-year contract.

His departure from the Spanish La Liga team reportedly cost him around £1.28m according to The Sun, but the striker didn’t mind.

The Uruguay international moved to Spain just a year after his contract with Manchester United expired.

Edinson Cavani, who played for United before moving to Valencia, faced challenges in Spain, as he struggled to reach his peak performance due to various injury problems.

“This club has a lot of history and it makes me feel proud to now be a part of it,” the former PSG striker said.

“Wearing this shirt makes you feel something and we’ll be trying to bring that energy into the match on Saturday.”
