Danny Drinkwater, who won the Premier League title with Leicester City, had decided to draw down the curtain on his career at the age of 33.
In his latest interview, Drinkwater said, “I’d just like to announce my retirement from professional football.”
“I didn’t think it would bother me, but saying it then makes it almost like scratching a nerve a bit.”
“I think I’ve been ready for it, not stopping at my peak, and it’s simmered down a bit; that’s helped the transition.”
The midfielder moved to Chelsea after winning the Premier League title with Leicester City, but he failed to live up to expectations.
Drinkwater decided to retire from football about a year after he was released by Chelsea.
Drinkwater came through the Manchester United academy and failed to make any senior debuts under Sir Alex Ferguson. He had a loan spell with Huddersfield, Cardiff, Watford, and Barnsley.
However, he became a recognized player after his success at Leicester City since moving to the club in 2012.
He participated vividly in the Leicester City Premier League-winning team, making 35 appearances in 38 matches.
The Leicester City team dominated the Premier League, with Ngolo Kante in midfield alongside Drinkwater.
On March 2016, the midfielder made his first appearance against the Netherlands at Wembley, but he was not able to compete for the Roy Hodgson European team.
