A video showing a staff telling Portugal’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo to wear his nose mask has surfaced online. This occurred during Portugal’s 4-1 win over Croatia in the UEFA Nationa’s League game played on Saturday evening at the Estádio Do Dragão, Portugal.
Although this won’t have made the news if the five times world footballer of the year is on the pitch. He is expected to live by example right? Yes.
But one can’t blame, Ronaldo who is waiting for his 100th Portugal goal. The Juventus forward cut a frustrated figure as he sat in the stand after being ruled out of the game due a foot injury. Portugal head coach Fernando Santos said during his press conference, that his right foot became red as if he was stung by a bee.
Ronaldo had scored his 99th international goal against Luxembourg back in November. Since then he hasn’t had many opportunities to add to his tally since.
The sting, according to reports has infected the 35-year-old’s right foot and there’s a chance he could also miss Portugal’s fixture against Sweden on Tuesday.
“I am very doubtful that he will be 100 per cent OK. He had been training well, then suddenly on Wednesday one of his toes was red, as if he’d been stung by a bee.
“Now we have to wait. With an infection, you don’t know how long the recovery is going to take,” Santos said.
Despite his infected foot, Ronaldo was still in attendance watching his teammates produced an excellent team performance in his absence. Portugal got the goals from Joao Cancelo, Diogo Jota, Joao Felix and Andre Silva.
‘Mask up Ronaldo’
It was at a point during the match that the camera cut to Ronaldo being asked by a member of staff inside the stadium to wear a face mask.
As those around him in the stands were masked up, Ronaldo was carried away by the match and he had clearly forgotten to put his mask on.
It’s normal as it is unusual for a player who usually play 90 minutes of football. So, almost everyone have been there at one point or another in recent months, forgetting to put on their masks.
Ronaldo adhered straight to the protocol and duly cooperated after his reminder. He continued watching the action afterwards. Good one from CR-7.
