Lewandowski enjoyed his most prolific season in 2019-20

Bayern Munich striker, Robert Lewandowski has said he expects the goals to flow once again in 2020/21 and beyond.

The 32-year-old Polish striker, who believes he can stay at the top level for years wants to have more of his last season success where he scored 55 goals.

Lewandowski also won the three highest goal scorers in the German Bundesliga with 34 goals, six from the DFB Cup and 15 from the UEFA Champions League. This makes him the first player to ever achieve such feat. This has given him the believe that he can continue to serve up such prolific numbers for years to come.

Looking ahead of his 11th season on German soil, Lewandowski has been five years past a professional footballer’s perceived peak. But the Poland international is confident he can maintain his eye-watering levels deep into his 30s.

Robert Lewandowski not feeling 32

“I don’t feel like I’m 32. I feel better than I did at 26, not just physically, but also in terms of my footballing and technical ability. I’ve been working very hard over the past few years to reach my optimum level.

“I’m very happy that I have managed to do this, and can play football at the highest level for even longer,” Lewandowski told kicker after being named Germany’s Footballer of the Year for the first time.

Robert Lewandowski still Bayern Munich’s goal machine?

Since he has not missed more than four league matches of a 34-game Bundesliga season since his move to the Bundesliga from Lech Poznan in summer 2010, one can fairly assume that Lewandowski will remain Bayern’s chief source of goals for the foreseeable future.

With three more years on his current contract, the poacher admits he can envisage ending his career with the record champions further down the line.

“My current contract is not my last. I want to play even longer. I want to achieve even more. My teammates in Munich feel the same way.

“Ending my career at FC Bayern is an option, of course. But I still have so many years left in me, I’m not thinking about the end of my career. I’m doing everything I can to stay at this level for a few more years at least,” Lewandowski affirmed.

With an average of 30 goals in three of his last five seasons in the Bundesliga, Lewandowski is the Bundesliga’s all-time leading non-German scorer with 236 goals in 321 games. Those three seasons have seen him win Torjägerkanone successively but he has won five overall. He is also currently behind Gerd Müller (246 to 515 goals) in the club all times goals scorers.

Robert Lewandowkis ends 2019-20 with 55 goals

This is why he is now referred to as LewanGOALski. He now has the chance to become the first Bundesliga-based player to win the FIFA Best Player award.

The 2020 Ballon d’Or was cancelled due to the interruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
