Jorge Messi, father and agent to Lionel Messi, has released a statement in a letter to Laliga concerning their stance on the Barcelona star’s release clause

Messi submitted a formal transfer request to Barcelona on Tuesday 25th of August, after they crashed out of the Champions League in the hands of Bayern Munich.

Reports claim that the 33-year-old has lost faith in current club President Josep Bartomeu and the manner in which he has run the club.

With Messi heavily linked with a move away from Camp Nou, controversies have erupted over a clause in his contract that reportedly allows him to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of every season.

The Barcelona hierarchy reports that potential suitors would have to trigger his €700millon release clause, claiming walk free contract expired, while his legal team believes the clause still stands.

Following the ongoing saga, the Catalan club held a meeting with Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi on Wednesday, hoping to find an agreement to keep their no. 10.

La Liga originally supported Barcelona’s claim regarding his €700 million release clause, but now Messi’s father claims that that the Spanish division has made a mistake

Journalist Alfredo Martinez has now uploaded an image of Jorge’s letter on Friday afternoon after it was reported that Messi might make a U-turn on his decision to leave Camp Nou.

Guillem Balague confirmed that the letter, written in Spanish, was submitted to La Liga.

Balague wrote: “This is the letter that Jorge Messi just sent to LaLiga in which denies LaLiga interpretation that the €700m buyout clause is still applicable.

“Jorge insists it is not applicable from the end of last season if the player decides unilaterally to leave FCB.”

Fabrizio Romano offered the translation on his Instagram and twitter account

He wrote: We do not know which contract they [Liga] have analysed, and which are the bases on which they conclude that it would have a termination clause applicable in the event that the player decides to urge the unilateral termination of the same.”

While Dermot Corrigan noted that the letter essentially stated: “We don’t know what contract you’ve analysed… but you’ve made a clear error.”

It is now clear that Messi is not interested in remaining with his boyhood club and his Legal team does not believe that his €700 million release clause must be triggered for him to this summer.
