Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has reportedly agreed to join LaLiga giants Barcelona according to reports from Spain.
Spanish publication, Diario Sport, reports that Liverpool midfielder Wijnaldum has agreed to a three-year deal with Barcelona who are now negotiating a transfer fee with the Premier League champions.
They claim Barcelona has agreed to pay between £13m and £18m for the Dutchman’s services.
With Wijnaldum in the last year of his contract, negotiations between him and Liverpool over an extended contract have stalled and it appears Barcelona are ready to swoop in for their man.
Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp had earlier insisted he was relaxed about the midfielder’s contract situation.
Klopp said: “That’s an open contract situation, otherwise we would know.
“It’s all between us and the player, these kind of things. It’s all good at the moment, all fine.
“Gini played very well in pre-season and has obviously had a couple of good seasons for us. That’s all I can say about that.”
The Netherlands international has been linked with a move to Barcelona but with ex-Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman now at the helm, he would be tempted by the prospects of working under his former manager.
The 29-year-old knows Ronald Koeman well, having played under him with the Holland national team.
Koeman is also reported to be a huge fan of the midfielder and is keen on reuniting with him at the Nou Camp this summer
Should Wijnaldum leave for Barcelona, Liverpool would intensify their interest in Bayern Munich‘s Thiago Alcantara.
The Spaniard would be available on a free transfer, after his contract with the German outfit expired.
Wijnaldum joined Liverpool from Newcastle for £24 million in 2016 and since then has become one of the best press-resistant midfielders in the League.
He has won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Liverpool.
