Crystal Palace have confirmed that Eberechi Eze is set to be out for six weeks with a hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old midfielder picked up the injury in the Eagles’ 1-0 win over Manchester United. He was substituted with two minutes left in the game.
This is a major blow for Palace, as Eze is one of their most creative players. He scored nine goals and provided four assists in 34 appearances in the Premier League last season.
Palace manager Roy Hodgson said that Eze is “devastated” by the injury, but he is confident that he will come back stronger.
“Eberechi is devastated,” Vieira said. “He’s a young player who’s really passionate about the game and he’s been working really hard to get back to his best.
“But he’s a strong character and I’m sure he’ll come back stronger. We’ll give him all the support he needs to get back on the pitch as quickly as possible.”
Eze’s absence will be a big blow to Palace’s hopes of challenging for a top-half finish this season with Palace’s other creative player Michael Olise also on the sidelines.
Palace will hope that Eze can return to the team before the end of the year. He is a key player for the Eagles and his creativity will be missed in the coming weeks.
