Chelsea Wants Victor Osimhen And Ivan Toney To Boost Attack

Chelsea have struggled this season, especially in the attack, as they have failed to register a goal in the month of September.

This is even coming after they signed Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, with Nkunku picking up a serious knee injury during pre-season.

The Blues spent about £1bn on signings under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who appointed a new recruitment team last year.

Last season transfer business was overseen by the club’s co-sporting directors, Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, with input from Joe Shields, the co-director of recruitment and talent.

Mauricio Pochettino, on the other hand, is not satisfied with the forwards at Chelsea as he has identified both Osimhen and Toney as potential additions.

The Guardian also confirmed that Chelsea are lining up a surprise move to sign these players in the January Transfer Window.

Recall we reported that Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli has been thrown into the air following a series of unusual TikTok videos by the Serie A team.

Napoli posted several videos of the Nigerian after he missed a penalty in the club’s 0-0 draw with Bologna.

Osimhen’s agent also released a formal statement about the incident, confirming that they may take legal action against Napoli.

Chelsea are monitoring how the situation at Naples will unfold and are looking to see if they can initiate a transfer in winter.

Ivan Toney is another player that Chelsea are monitoring as the player is also seeking for “new challenge” in 2024 amid interest from London rivals Arsenal.

Toney, 27, has not featured in a Premier League match since May after he pleaded guilty to 232 breaches of the Football Association’s rules on betting.

Futballnews also reported that he was subsequently banned for eight months and the ban will come to an end in January 2024.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank also admitted that they will be willing to sell the player and placed an £80 million price tag on the Englishman.

However, Chelsea boss Pochettino has revealed that he wants to play a significant role in his second transfer window at the club.

“The good thing is the relationship and communication is very good with the sporting directors and owners,” Chelsea coach Pochettino said.

“When the transfer window was closed I said I need to be more involved now in all the decisions. I have started to work to identify what we need for January.”

The Blues are currently 14th in the Premier League and they are set to visit Fulham in a showdown on Monday, 2nd October 2023.

Speaking on his team’s lack of goals, Pochettino said: “Football is very dynamic and it is about the present always.”

“Things can change until January. We need to work to recover Nkunku and Armando Broja to try to provide the team with more goals and become solid. But, of course, we have already started to work [on transfers].”

Chelsea could be without 11 players against Fulham and Pochettino revealed that Ben Chilwell’s hamstring injury was serious.

The England defender is waiting for results of a scan after he limped off the pitch in Carabao Cup win over Brighton.

Speaking on Chilwell, Pochettino said: “The doctor told me it’s not a good thing, it looks a bad injury.”

“We need to assess in the next few days and we will see the period he will be absent. It doesn’t look good.”

Chilwell, who will not only miss out on the Chelsea squad, but will also be out of next month’s England squad, missed last year’s World Cup with a torn hamstring.
