Liverpool boss Ange Postecoglou has revealed that he has outgrown supporting Liverpool as he did when he was a child.
Ange Postecoglou revealed this as his team is set for a showdown with Jurgen Klopp’s men on Saturday 30th September, 2023.
Speaking on it, Postecoglou said: “I used to love Happy Days too – but I don’t have posters of the Fonz on my wall now”.
Spurs manager also admitted that he also supported Liverpool in his youth as he was growing up in Melbourne, Australia.
The revelation from the Australian manager only means that he would have to put all of that support behind him as he faces Jurgen Klopp’s men on Saturday.
Speaking on a trip down memory lane at his press conference on Friday, Ange Postecoglou also revealed that he only got to watch either United or Liverpool.
He said: “It was the Seventies. You went one or two ways. They only used to show Liverpool or Manchester United back then.”
“I had a couple of mates who went the United way so I went with Liverpool to make it interesting.”
“Like any kid, I had the posters up on the wall. Liverpool was my team, but you grow up, things change. I used to love Happy Days.”
“But I don’t have posters of The Fonz on my wall now. That’s how it goes.”
A reporter jokingly asked the manager if he should include Maddison in his Fantasy Football team, the Australian showed no interest.
He responded to the reporter by saying: “Mate you can do whatever you like. It’s of zero interest to me.”
He was also asked about the threat Klopp’s Liverpool poses and he said: “They’ve been a very good football team for a while now.
“The elements of who they are as a football team have always been there”.
Ange Postecoglou went on to add: “They bring something different to other teams in the league in the way they play.”
“It will be a good test for us in trying to impose our football. Klopp is an outstanding manager.”
“They believed in something and they’ve allowed that to grow, because they believed that was the way they would get success.”
“The short-term success didn’t come straight away, but they saw what Jurgen was building.”
Ange Postecoglou
Angelos Postecoglou is an Australian association football manager and former player, who was born on 27 August, 1965.
He spent most of his club career as a defender for South Melbourne Hellas and played four games for the Australian national team in the late 1980s.
The treble-winning manager began managing at South Melbourne Hellas in 1996, winning the National Soccer League twice and the OFC Champions League in 1999.
Ange Postecoglou also led the national under-17 and under-20 teams.
The former Celtic boss has managed Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory in the A-League, winning the Premiership in 2011 and the Championship in 2011 and 2012.
Postecoglou was the senior national team manager from 2013 to 2017, winning the AFC Asian Cup in 2015 and also going to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Aside from that, he also won the J1 League with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2019, and then won five trophies (including two league titles) in two seasons with Celtic.
