Arsenal have started the 2023/24 campaign on a good note with five wins and two draws in all competitions, but can this current form and Eddie Nketiah as the club’s top 9 win them a title this season?
So far this season, the Gunners have racked up 14 points from six Premier League games and have opened their Champions League campaign with a resounding victory over Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven.
They are also set for EFL Cup clash against Brentford and will also be competing in FA Cup.
With four trophies on the line for the Gunners, Mikel Arteta will be expected to lead the Gunners to at least a silverware after three consecutive breakout seasons
However, Manchester City are still favourites to win the Premier League this season with a perfect start to the campaign.
On the other hand, Arsenal are one of the favorites to win the 2023-2024 UEFA Champions League after making a return to the campaign following seven years absence.
Also, the Gunners are expected to lay hands on any of the other domestic trophies in England this season if they miss out on the Premier League and Champions League titles.
Mikel Arteta has done a great job at Arsenal but Arsenal trophy chances this season will be overly dependent on the squad depth, fitness, and character.
Already, the English giants have been ravaged with injuries. Jurrien Timber, Gabriel Jesus, Thomas Partey, Declan Rice, and Gabriel Martinelli are all on the sidelines.
A piling injury lists will definitely take a toll on the team amidst the need to rotate the squad regularly across all four competitions this season.
Apart from Jurrien Timber who will miss months of action, there is a lifeline for Arsenal on other injured players. Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus, Martinelli, and Partey will soon be back to the squad. The club could also leverage on fringe stars like Nketiah, Fabio Vieira, and Emile Smith Rowe as stand-ins for regular starters on the sidelines.
Overall, Arsenal cannot be entirely ruled out of winning a silverware this season but availability of key players and the performance of rivals are key factors that will bear on Arsenal title chances this season.
Particularly, Arsenal have relied on attacking midfielders as frontline forwards with Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah leading the attack.
Gabriel Jesus scored 11 goals with 6 assists last season and is yet to find the back of the net this season in four matches no thanks to a niggling injury that limited to the sidelines.
Eddie Nketiah has been used as a stand-in for the Brazilian. Nketiah had 4 goals with an assist in 30 matches last term and has netted twice in 4 matches this term. He will arguably have to step up his game to boost Arsenal title chances.
