Victor Boniface has been awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Month for August, beating notable players such as Harry Kane to claim this prestigious prize.

The prestigious award was designated by the DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga in the 2018/19 season, in collaboration with EA Sports, the official licensing partner of the Bundesliga.

Victor Boniface

The award is determined through a two-stage selection process that takes into account the players’ performance data as well as a vote by football fans and experts.

Boniface’s exceptional performance earned him the Bundesliga award

The 22-year-old Bayer Leverkusen’s latest center-forward had a sterling start to his career in the Bundesliga.

He played a key role in creating Jeremie Frimpong’s opening goal against Leipzig, helping his team secure an impressive 3-2 victory.

In the following match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Boniface netted two goals in a comfortable 3-0 win.

In August, the Nigerian striker registered 14 shots, which is the highest number among all Bundesliga players.

In just the second matchday, he unleashed a total of 11 attempts on Jonas Omlin’s goal during the game against Gladbach.

Meanwhile, this is the same number of attempts that former Tottenham striker Harry Kane managed in both Matchdays 1 and 2 combined.

Victor Boniface

Boniface’s exceptional toil and prowess have made a lasting impression having recorded the highest number of challenges in the Bundesliga, with a total of 54.

Additionally, his relentless pressing has resulted in a remarkable 43 percent success rate.

In addition to the Bundesliga award, the striker’s outstanding performances earned him the prestigious Rookie of the Month award.

This achievement makes him the first player since Erling Haaland in 2020 to receive both the Player and Rookie of the Month titles in the same month.

Other nominees for the month of August

Alphonso Davies

Davies was among the three outfield players at Bayern Munich who played the entire 90 minutes in their first two Bundesliga matches.

The German champions scored a total of seven goals during the first two matchdays, with Davies contributing three assists.

Davies was responsible for setting up 10 shots in those games, which was more than any other player in the champions’ ranks.

He has attempted 40 challenges, which is the highest number among the team during Matchdays 1 and 2.

Jonas Wind

At the end of August, Wolfsburg’s Wind emerged as a surprise co-leader at the top of the Bundesliga scoring charts, having scored four goals.

Wind has become the first player in the history of his club to score four goals in the Bundesliga during the first two matchdays.

Furthermore, he managed to hit the target with all seven of his goal attempts.

Kevin Behrens

Behrens, who scored all four of his goals with his head, is sitting pretty alongside Wind at the top of the charts.

Since the beginning of record-keeping in the 1992/93 season, there has never been a player who scored four goals with their head in the first two matchdays.

He is not as accurate as Wind; two out of his six shots in August missed the target. However, all four of his shots that were on target found the back of the net.

Harry Kane

Bayern’s new number 9 wasted no time in living up to the hype. In just the fourth minute of Matchday 1, he provided an assist for Leroy Sane and then went on to score himself.

On Matchday 2, he scored two goals and established himself as the third player in the history of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga to score three goals in his first two Bundesliga matches after Adolfo Valencia in 1993 and Gustav Jung in 1967.

After just two matches, Kane has already scored three goals, making him Bayern’s leading scorer. In August, the England captain had four direct goal involvements, which put him at par with Behrens and Wind as the most creative player in the Bundesliga.

Furthermore, Kane’s impressive tally of 11 shots on goal ranks as the second-highest in the Bundesliga.

Benjamin Henrichs

RB Leipzig’s defender, Benjamin Henrichs has an impressive record of winning 71 percent of his challenges, surpassing all other Leipzig players.

The right-back was also impressive in the first two matches, taking the most shots on goal for the team with a total of eight. He managed to score against VfB Stuttgart on Matchday 2.

What’s next for Victor Boniface?

Boniface will be looking to continue his impressive goal-scoring record against Harry Kane in Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen anticipated clash in the Bundesliga today, September 15.
