Mason Greenwood joins Getafe on loan.

Recall we reported that Spanish FA boss Luis Rubiales gave an unsolicited kiss to Spain striker, Jennifer Hermosos, during the Women’s World Cup trophy final presentation.

The Spanish FA president, 46, revealed that the kiss was “consensual” despite the player insisting she never consented to a kiss on the lips.

Luis Rubiales, in a press conference, adamantly refused to resign from his position as the Spanish chief and threatened legal action against Hermoso for defamation.

The federation has seen resignations recently, with Spanish women’s head coach Jorge Vilda’s entire coaching staff announcing their departures over the weekend until the matter is settled.

FIFA, on the other hand, has provisionally suspended Luis Rubiales for 90 days, which reportedly pushed his mum to go on a hunger strike.

Now Mason Greenwood, 21, has completed a loan move to Spanish La Liga club Getafe as he looks to revive his career.

Getafe President has been on a hypocrisy row as he has been tagged as “two-faced” by football fans.

Angel Torres, 71, was amongst the first set of people who condemned the behavior of Spanish football chief Luis Rubiales.

Torres blasted the Spanish football FA chief for kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips at the World Cup presentation but went on to sign Mason Greenwood.

Recall we reported that the Englishman was arrested last year on suspicion of attempted rape, assault, and coercive control which was reported by his girlfriend Harriet Robson.

The charges against Mason Greenwood have however been dropped since February following several rounds of court cases.

Manchester United conducted an internal investigation and subsequently removed him from their squad amid pressure from fans and domestic abuse campaigners.

However, Torres has seen several football fans around the globe call him out on social media over the signing of Greenwood.

One football fan who could not hide his disgust accused the Getafe president of “unreal hypocrisy”.

Another fan also stated that: “Torres said Rubiales could not stay ‘a minute more’ in his post. Same guy just signed Mason Greenwood.”

A third fan who also could not hide his disgust, said: “Torres believes that Greenwood deserves a second chance but not Rubiales.”

The fourth fan, who tagged the Getafe account’s official announcement of Greenwood, said: “Given the context of the one topic that has dominated headlines for two weeks in Spain, that Getafe President Ángel Torres has asked Luis Rubiales to resign, this deal really melts your head a bit.”

What Happened To Mason Greenwood?

Mason Greenwood, 21, was arrested in January 2022 amid allegations surrounding sexual assault and attempted rape.

The Englishman was later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault involving actual bodily harm.

His girlfriend Harriet Robson took to her Instagram page and posted evidence of these allegations.

The forward who has made one appearance for England, was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club within hours after the allegations surfaced online.

However, in February 2023, charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped against the Manchester United footballer.

Greenwood in a statement said that he was “relieved” and thanked his family and friends for supporting him.

The Crown Prosecution Service said the charges were halted after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and “new material came to light”.

A statement that was released on Greenwood’s behalf read: “I am relieved that this matter is now over and I would like to thank my family, loved ones, and friends for their support. There will be no further comment at this time.”
