Kevin De Bruyne will be a big loss for Manchester City, who faced a tough task of defending the Premier League title, and possibly challenging for another treble this season.

De Bruyne, who has been the engine room of Pep Guardiola’s flourishing tiki-taka football style, played a big role in Manchester City’s treble triumph last season.

The Belgium international made 32 Premier League appearances for Manchester City last season, scoring 7 goals with 16 assists.

He also starred in Champions League for the Citizens, making 10 appearances with 2 goals. He recorded two assists in EFL Cup.

De Bruyne picked up a harmstring issue in Manchester City’s opening Premier League game against Burnley and hobbled off the match few minutes into the first half.

The injury blow in the opening weekend clash against Burnley came less than three months after he picked up similar issue in Manchester City 2022/23 Champions League final clash against Inter Milan.

De Bruyne was forced off the game in the first half after he was suddenly grounded with a knee cramp.

Kevin De Bruyne Manchester City injury history

Despite his glittering career at the Manchester club, Kevin De Bruyne has a gruelling injury history since joining Manchester City in 2015/16 season. He missed 13 matches on his debut season with the club, spending over two months on the sideline due to a knee injury.

He suffered three injury blows in 2016/17 season which saw him missed another month of action with the club.

2018/19 season was his worst season with Manchester City. De Bruyne picked up five injuries that saw him missed 36 matches for Manchester City across all competitions.

Generally, De Bruyne has not played a single full season for Manchester without an injury. However, the recent harmstring issue is the most devastating. The 32-year-old will miss action for Manchester City for four to five months.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed Manchester City will shop for a replacement for De Bruyne as his injury is a big distortion to the club’s squad plan this season.

City were linked with a move for West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta but a report of FA’s inquiry into Paqueta’s gambling beaches has stalled the move.
