The Brazilian youngster has moved on loan to German side Borrusia Dortmund and will spend the next 24 months at the Signal Iduna Park. Real Madrid signed Reinier Jesus from Flamengo in his native country. The 18-year-old joined the La Liga club on a six-year deal for a reported €30m (£25.6m) fee. Reinier became the latest young Brazilian talent to be snapped up by Real, following the recent signings of Vinícius Júnior and Rodrygo Goes. He arrived after Brazil’s pre-Olympic tournament finished in February, and initially joined up with the club’s reserve side, RM Castilla due to La Liga’s registration rules which prevented him from immediately joining up with Zinedine Zidane’s first team, as only three non-EU players are allowed in the senior squad, with Vinicius, Rodrygo and Eder Militao already filling those spots.

While giving his first interview at the club, Reinier said: “I am happy to be with BVB now. The club is known for betting on young players and making them better. I want to learn a lot here, play a lot and help the team to be successful. I hope that we will have many happy moments together.”

BVB’s sporting director Micheal Zorc was also thrilled on the completion of the deal. “Reinier is a player who brings enormous talent and can be used in various attacking positions. We have been watching the boy for more than two years, he has great technical skills as well as good physical robustness. After a long break from competition, we will give him the time he needs to get used to German professional football, then he will be an additional attacking option.”

As seen with Christian Pulisic, Jadon Sancho, Ousmane Dembele, Erling Haaland amongst others, Dortmund is a good developing ground for youngsters so it’s no surprise that Jude Bellingham and now Reinier have made the move to Germany. Given that Reinier was always going to be behind his compatriots Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo in the pecking order for next season, a move away makes perfect sense as he continues the development of his young albeit promising career.
