The likes of Kim Kardashian, Serena Williams, Lebron James, all turned out to watch the soccer maestro make his Inter Miami debut.
And it was a worthwhile experience as the Barcelona legend enthused his fans with a cloud nine display.
Joining the club as a free agent from PSG, Lionel Messi accounted for his multi-million dollar contract with the Florida-based club, scoring a spectacular late goal that ended the club’s 13 matches winless run.
The footie ace produced one of his regular magic with a stunning freekick goal in the 94th minute to hand Inter Miami their first win in months.
The 2022 World Cup hero created two landmark records with the goal – becoming the first player in history to score a freekick goal on a match debut and also taking his ‘non-penalty’ goal tally to 700 goals.
After the game, Messi was surrounded by top celebrities who graced the DRV PNK Stadium to watch the game. Kim Kardashian’s son, Saint, 7, was fortunate enough to close up on Lionel Messi after the game.
Kim Kardashian took to her Instagram Stories to share a footage of Saint and his sibling taking a pic with Lionel Messi. The 7-year-old, whom her mother described as a “deep soccer lover” got a signed Lionel Messi Inter Miami shirt from Messi.
After bagging the signed shirt from the footie icon, Saint celebrated with his sibling.
Donning Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami black shirt, Saint and his sibling jumped up and down in excitement. They also met with Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham.
Saint and her mother Kim Kardashian are big soccer fans and have been spotted in some big matches in top leagues in Europe last season.
Kim KardashianIn and Saint attended Arsenal’s Europa League match against Sporting CP at Emirates in March, 2023 which ended in a defeat. Saint wanted to meet Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka but could not meet the England star.
After the match, Saka facetimed Saint and his mother, apologizing for his inability to meet the young soccer lover while promising to give them a signed Arsenal shirt on their return to the Emirates.
Still in March, the pair also attended French Ligue 1 match between PSG and Rennes. During their visit, PSG suffered a shock 2-0 home defeat for the first time in over a year, ending their 35-matched unbeaten run.
Football fans blamed PSG’s defeat and Arsenal’s Europa League defeat to Sporting CP on Kim Kardashian’s presence on the stands.
Some fans poked fun on Kardashian’s ill-luck for home teams when she attends a match and coined out ‘Kim Kardashian’s curse’ to explain the misfortunes.
At the DRV PNK Stadium, it appears ‘Kim Kardashian’s curse’ did not work as Lionel Messi fired the MLS side to a clinical victory.
