Breaking down in tears as he narrated his ordeal, Dele Alli revealed he was molested at 6 by his mum’s friend, started peddling drugs at 7, was abused by an elderly person, who hung him over a bridge at 11, found help at 12 from his adopted parents who helped him push through his football career before his downfall.
He also spoke about how he got addicted to sleeping pills, how he reached out for help, and getting admitted in a rehabilitation center.
While Dele Alli’s interview has attracted sympathies from top football stars and fans across the globe, we reported earlier that Dele Alli’s family have come out to debunk some of the claims made by the Everton player in the interview.
His family has disputed claims Alli was sent back to Nigeria to learn discipline but rather to stay close to his father Kehinde Alli.
His family members also said Alli’s mum, Denise, is not an alcoholic as claimed by Alli. They also disputed his claim he was abandoned by the family, saying Alli was abducted by his adopted parents who did everything possible to disconnect him from his biological parents so as to exploit his burgeoning football career then.

The crux of Dele Alli’s interview has been his declining career. After a breakthrough stint with Milton Keynes Don from 2011 to 2015, Dele Alli made a huge career leap joining Tottenham in 2015. Mauricio Pochettino is understood to have played a big role in Dele’s brilliant career at Tottenham.
Alli referenced the Chelsea boss in his tell-all interview revealing how he connected with the Argentinian on a personal level, helping him push through a great career at the club.
His decline started after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked in 2019 and replaced by Jose Mourinho. Under Mourinho, Alli’s fortunes took a downturn. He was axed off the club’s starting lineup and was sparingly used off the bench.
After a blighted last days at Tottenham, Alli joined Everton on a four-year contract and was still on his ruins before being loaned to Besiktas where he suffered final death blows to his career.
Before his heartbreaking interview, Chelsea new manager Mauricio Pochettino addressed Alli’s career decline promising to reach out to the fallen striker.
After his interview, Mauricio has confirmed his previous decision to reach out to the player as he was deeply touched by the interview.
Reacting to the interview via ESPN, Mauricio Pochettino said;
“It was really tough for me to see him. I didn’t finish the interview because it was so painful. After the USA tour, I hope to see him in London, meet him and give him a big hug.”
Dele Alli has been given a lifeline by Everton manager Sean Dyche to reset his career as he is ready to work with the player after his recovery from injury.
Alli has one year left in his Everton contract and will hope to revive his career in the upcoming 2023/24 season or hang the boots.
