Joao Felix is keen on leaving Atletico Madrid to join Paris Saint Germain, according to reports.
Felix, who spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Chelsea appears surplus to requirements at the Madrid-based club.
The Portuguese is apparently not in Diego Simeone’s plans and he reportedly wants out.
According to Spanish media outlet, relovo, Atletico Madrid “sent a message” to Joao Felix by stripping him off the number 7 shirt and handing it to Antoine Griezmann.
The 23-year-old joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica in the summer of 2019 for a club-record fee of £113 million.
Felix put pen-to-paper on a seven-year deal with the club, which runs until the 30th of June, 2026.
Since his arrival to the club, he has made 131 appearances, scoring 34 goals and providing 18 assists in all competitions.
However, he has failed to make a significant impact in Spain, since he made that high-profile move from the Estádio da Luz.
Joao Felix joined Chelsea on a six-month loan deal last term and he made 20 appearances, scoring 4 goals and providing no assist.
The 23-year-old also didn’t impress at the Stamford Bridge club and he has returned to his primary base.
His future currently hangs in the balance and it is uncertain if he will remain at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Reports also indicate that Joao Felix and Diego Simeone don’t have a good working relationship and the pair do not want to work together again.
Both parties have always been at loggerheads due to a divergence in style as Felix feels Simone doesn’t play him in his preferred role.
Joao Felix to Paris Saint Germain
The door might be open at Paris Saint Germain, with the departure of Kylian Mbappe reportedly looming.
PSG have already made 3 additions this summer, with the signing of Milan Skriniar, Marco Asensio and Manuel Ugarte, more signings are also expected to be made.
If Joao Felix makes a move to the French capital, he might enjoy a new lease of life, playing under Luis Enrique, a manager with an utterly contrasting style to Diego Simeone.
The Portuguese would be fascinated with the idea of teaming up with fellow countrymen Vitinha, Renato Sanches and Nuno Mendez.
He excelled in the Primeira Liga with Benefica and potentially playing in a less competitive league compared to the La Liga, might just bring out the best in him.
The 23-year-old scored 20 goals and made 11 assists in 43 appearances whilst at Benfica.
However, he has struggled to reach the devastating heights that saw him win the Golden Boy award in 2019.
Paris Saint Germain are interested in signing Joao Felix but reports indicate that the key factor holding the deal from happening is Neymar Jr.
It has been reported that until the Brazilian leaves the Parc Des Princes, they will not sanction a deal for Felix due to Financial Fair Play concerns.
