Chelsea target Kai Havertz has once again reiterated his desire to leave the club as he claims he is ready for the “next step” in his young albeit promising career.
This admission was made by the Leverkusen chief Fernando Carro who told German newspaper Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger: “It has always been clear that there will be talks once the Europa League is over for us. Still, there is no formal offer yet.
“Kai has told us about his desire to take the next step. Whether that can be materialised soon, I can’t say at the moment. There are several clubs who have Kai in their plans for the future.”
It also seems like his current coach Peter Bosz is also resigned to losing him. At the start of the month, Bosz was quoted saying:
I talk to Kai a lot and try to feel what all this does to him. For example, these daily rumours about transfers, I keep finding that Kai is handling all of this very well. I don’t think he will stop playing at 29. Yes, I know what he wants to do, but of course, I’m not going to give it away, it’s up to him.”
Havertz enjoyed another splendid campaign where he scored 18 goals, the latest of which was in a 2-1 Europa League defeat to Inter that saw the German side crash out of the tournament.
This has seen him emerge as a major transfer target for Chelsea as the Blues continue to plan ahead of next season. Bayern was also interested in a move for next summer but his side is keen to cash in this summer. Luckily for Chelsea, they won’t have to compete with Bayern who has been a major magnet of German talents, for Havertz.
However, Leverkusen has made it clear that Chelsea must meet their financial valuation of the youngster if any move is to materialise this summer and that any move would have to wait till their European campaign was over but after last week’s defeat to Inter, the stage is set for the completion of the transfer deal.
