James Milner has joined Brighton as a free agent after spending eight seasons at Liverpool as the Seagulls prepare for next season.
The Englishman joined the Seagulls after winning Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League, Super Cup, EFL Cup and Club World Cup with the Reds.
Milner, 37, is just 34 league games away from overtaking Gareth Barry with most appearances of all-time in the Premier League.
The deal he signed with Brighton will see him spend a year at the South Coast with an option of an additional year.
Milner made 332 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool, winning seven major trophies; including the Premier League in 2020 and the Champions League in 2019.
The former Man City player also has made 619 top-flight appearances since his debut in November 2002, and is just 13 appearances behind Ryan Giggs and 33 behind current leader Gareth Barry.
Brighton moved for the signing of James Milner given his vast experience in Europe, which will help them ahead of next season.
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi welcomed the veteran as he prepares to lead the Seagulls into the Europa League for the first time in the club history.
De Zerbi said: “I’m very glad to welcome James to Brighton. He’s an excellent addition for us and I’m sure he will help to bring us to an even higher level.”
Recall we reported that Brighton have sealed a record signing of Watford’s Joao Pedro for around £20m. Hence, Milner becomes their second signing this summer.
Milner received interests from Burnley but De Zerbi’s tactical innovation ultimately got the best of him, tactics that have been commended by Pep Guardiola.
Next season will be James Milner’s 22nd season in the Premier League and signing for Brighton shows the Seagull’s policy to balance exceptional young talent with experience.
