Javier Chicharito of LA Galaxy has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.
Chicharito sustained the injury in the 24th minute of play on Wednesday, June 7, during LA Galaxy’s defeat to Real Salt Lake in the U.S. Open Cup.
The 35-year-old Mexico International was stretched off the field on a stretcher after he went to the ground.
Javier Chicharito was replaced by Dejan Joveljic, however, the club have since disclosed the duration of his injury and the revelation is not good.
Chicharito, the 35-year-old former Manchester United forward, is set to lose the rest of the 2023 season and will undergo surgery to begin the improvement procedure on a date to be specified.
Chicharito’s contract with the Galaxy is up at the end of the season, thus he may have already played his last game for the club. There are also concerns that the injury may dismiss his future as a professional football player.
With this, Javier Chicharito hopes to maintain his profile and earn a recall to the Mexican national team. However, that will be postponed.
“The LA Galaxy today announced that the forward Javier Chicharito Hernandez sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) in his right knee during the club’s 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal match against Real Salt Lake on June 7”.
They added: Chicharito will undergo surgery on a date determined to begin the rehabilitation process”.
Greg Vanney, head coach and sporting director for the Galaxy, was confident, though, that Chicharito would make a complete recovery.
Hernandez had managed to score just once. Since joining the LA Galaxy before the 2020 season, he has totaled 39 goals in 80 league and cup games in 12 total matches this season (league and cup).
The likable striker has been a fan favorite for years and is Mexico’s all-time leading scorer with 52 goals in 109 appearances for the national team.
He made his debut with CD Guadalajara in 2006 and has since gone on to have stellar careers with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, West Ham United, and Sevilla.
The LA Galaxy’s forgettable season keeps on getting worse with this report.
The record five-time MLS Cup winners have the worst record in the league after 15 games, with only three victories and 12 points, putting them at the bottom of the Western Conference.
What’s next for Javier Chicharito?
The former West Ham United and Manchester United striker will undergo surgery following his ACL injury and will begin a rehabilitation procedure after the surgery.
