Players of Tottenham Hotspur are reimbursing Spurs supporters the amount they paid to watch the 6-1 loss in the hands of Newcastle United at St. James Park on Sunday.

The Lilywhites were 5-0 behind after just 21 minutes of the clash and caretaker manager Cristian Stellini has since been dismissed due to the humiliating defeat.

The Tottenham players said in a statement: “As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger.

“It wasn’t good enough. We know words aren’t enough in situations like this but a defeat like this hurts.”

The North London side allocation for the match was 3,209 seats, with prices between the region of £19 to £30, implying the move is likely to cost about £80,000.

Tottenham Hotspur said fans are expected to receive the reimbursement in the bank accounts within twenty-four (24) hours.

Tottenham Hotspur were pummeled by Newcastle United last Sunday

The North London side’s next game is at their 1-billion pound ground against Manchester United on Thursday, when Ryan Mason who was assistant to Stellini and Antonio Conte would be in charge.

Ryan Mason’s side sit fifth in the English Premier League table, six points adrift of Newcastle United and Manchester United who currently sit 3rd and 4th respectively.

Newcastle United have played a match less than Tottenham Hotspur, while Manchester United have two games outstanding in the Premier League.

Tottenham Hotspur players requested for more support from their fans

“We appreciate your support, home and away, and with this in mind we would like to reimburse fans with the cost of their match tickets from St James’ Park,” added the statement.

“We know this does not change what happened on Sunday and we will give everything to put things right against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us.”

The newly assigned interim manager Ryan Mason coaching team was revealed on Tuesday, with ex-academy player and coach Matt Wells appointed acting assistant head coach alongside current academy coach Nigel Gibbs named acting first-team coach.

First-team goalkeeping coach Perry Suckling and set-pieces coach Gianni Vio remain in their existing roles with Spurs.

The North London club have endured an horrendous season this term and they have let go of two managers this campaign, first Antonio Conte after a seemingly harsh post-match presser following the share of the spoils with Southampton.

Conte’s assistant, Stellini, bacame the new name to be dismissed from his interim role at Tottenham Hotspur following an horrible run that saw him drop points in three matches out of four in the Premier League.

Stellini picked up one win in four as Spurs manager

Spurs drew 1-1 with Everton after the Southampton game then afterwards beating Brighton and Hove Albion before faltering against Bournemouth and disgracefully losing against Newcastle United last weekend.

If they eye a place in the Premier League top 4, then they have to improve on their woeful performances all through the season.

The Lilywhites have lost 11 games, drawn 5 and won 16 games out of 32 they have played this term.

Spurs have just 6 remaining games left to play this campaign and their top 4 aspirations keeps getting dim game after game.
