Reece James is set to miss the rest of the season following a hamstring injury he picked up as confirmed by interim manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard confirmed in a statement that: “Reece James will be unavailable for the rest of the season, Mason Mount the same.”

“Mason has been carrying a pelvic injury for a while. It predates myself and he has been trying typically but he will have minor surgery, then a four-week recovery.”

“He [Mount] might make the last match but that’s unlikely, which is obviously disappointing for us.”

Lampard who replaced Graham Potter after he was sacked this season has not won any of his last four games in charge for The Blues.

Chelsea are currently in 11th position in the Premier League and already out of the Champions League as they were beaten by Real Madrid last week.

Mauricio Pochettino has been tipped to become Chelsea’s permanent manager before the end of the season as Lampard confirmed that the club has “big difficulties”.

When he was asked whether he expected to be in charge for the rest of the season, Lampard added that; “I wouldn’t expect anything in football, but we have come in to a club with big difficulties, with not a lot of time.”

“[There are] a lot of factors as to the four games I have been here. The team and club have been struggling for a while. We are here to help but things won’t change in a short time.”

Reece James

Reece James is an English professional footballer who was born on 8 December 1999 and plays as a right-back for Chelsea and the England national team.

James came through the Chelsea academy as a youth and turned professional in 2017, a season where he was the captain of the under-18s and helped them to victory in the FA Youth Cup and was named Academy Player of the Season.

James went on loan to Wigan Athletic of the Championship and was promoted to the Chelsea first team upon his return in 2019.

James was called up to England’s senior team for the first time in October 2020, after he has represented the country at various youth levels.

James Injury History

James is one Chelsea player that has consistently suffered injuries almost every season since he gained promotion to Chelsea’s senior team.

He even missed the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last December due to a knee injury which forced England manager Gareth Southgate to drop him.

He has had 13 major injuries in the last three years playing as a Chelsea player and it’s not looking good for the defender.

Reece Jame is arguably Chelsea’s best player and also the best right back in the world when he is in full fitness.

But his constant injury issues means Chelsea cannot really rely on him and that will dwindle his market value.
