Wes Brown, Ex-Manchester United Player Declared Bankruptcy After Split From His Wife

Wes Brown, former Manchester United defender who once earned 50,000 pounds per week at Old Trafford has been declared bankrupt at High Court after splitting from his wife.

According to insiders, HMRC filed a bankruptcy petition against the former England player which was rubber-stamped at the High Court on the 12th of April.

Brown and his ex-wife Leanne, with whom he had three children during the course of their 13-year marriage, divorced last year.

Note that Leanne became well-known thanks to the Real Housewives of Cheshire reality TV show.

The 43-year-old has fallen on hard times financially after retiring from professional football in 2018 after a stint in India following 19 years in the Premier League and one in the Championship.

Wes and Leanne broke up before Christmas [2021]. There were no outside influences, it was just the end of a sad chapter in their marriage.

Leanne has prospered as a single person and given up her wedding ring. She reports feeling liberated, making great strides in her businesses, and generally thriving in her newfound autonomy.

Meanwhile, Wes is making the most of the situation. They have put on a strong public front despite persistent rumors of marital struggle.

A source said the ex-couple are doing their best to co-parent their kids while pursuing their individual goals.

The couple’s previous house, a mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire, was originally on the market in 2011 for £4.5m but was reduced to £2.4m in 2016.

Brown, during his time at Manchester United earned as much as £50,000 a week. He won five Premier League titles, four domestic cups, and the Champions League twice during his stint at Old Trafford.

The 43-year-old ex-Man United defender was in United’s first team for 25 years having come through the Old Trafford club academy ranks.

Brown departed Manchester United in 2011 where he made 362 appearances for the club, and since then he has played for Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers. He has 23 England caps to his name.

Brown will play in the May 7 Manchester Remembers charity football match. The match is in honor of the victims of the 2017 bombing at the Manchester Arena.

At Oldham’s Boundary Park, he’ll be joined by other ex-United players Nicky Butt and Trevor Sinclair. Boxing great Ricky Hatton and comedian Jason Manford will represent the opposing celebs.

Brown, who was born in the Longsight neighborhood of Manchester, joined the United Academy when he was 12 years old and turned professional in November 1996.

He made his senior team debut in the final game of the 1997–98 season against Leeds United after winning the FA Youth Cup with United’s reserve squad.

Brown got his first taste of major league action in 1998–1999 when he played 21 times for United as they won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the UEFA Champions League.

Brown featured often as United won the Premier League in 2002–03 despite a string of injuries and stiff competition for defense spots.

In the 2007–08 season, he made 52 appearances for United and helped them win another league title. He also provided the pass from which Cristiano Ronaldo scored United’s first goal in the Champions League final against Chelsea as United prevailed in the shootout.

Brown’s stint at United was cut short by injuries, and he signed with Sunderland in the summer of 2011. Throughout five seasons, he made 87 appearances for the club before moving on to Blackburn and the Indian club Kerala Blasters to finish out his career.

After making his debut for England in a 1999 match against Hungary, Brown was included in Sven-Goran Eriksson’s World Cup squad for Japan and South Korea in 2002.

Brown only made 23 games for England because of competition from players like Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell, John Terry, and others.
