Lukaku scored Inter Milan’s equalizing goal against rivals Juventus, but was sent off after he celebrated in front of home fans that abused him throughout the game.

Juan Cuadrado and Samir Handanovic also received red cards due to the chaos caused by Lukaku’s second yellow card in the Coppa Italia semi-final first-leg.

Romelu Lukaku after the game, took to his social media account to voice his displeasure over racism in Italy and asked the league to “really take action.”

On his social media account, the Belgian wrote: “History repeats itself. Been through it in 2019… and 2023 again.”

“I hope the league really take action for real this time because this beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone. Fuck racism.”

This is not the fist time Lukaku has face racial abuses from the italian fans and supporters of opposition club sides.

The striker who returned to the club on loan from Chelsea last summer, suffered racist abuse during his first spell at Inter Milan between 2019 and 2021.

He said in September 2019 that the game of football “was going backwards” after he was racially abused by Cagliari fans.

Cagliari, however were later discharged of the racist charges with Chief of Anti-Discriminatory body claiming that the systems to combat racism in Italian football were ineffective.

Lukaku said in September 2021 that racism in football was at an “all-time high” and that authorities governing football could do more to curb the issue.

Serie A condemns racism after Juventus fans abused Lukaku

Italian Serie A condemned “all instances of racism” on Wednesday following Juventus fans’ racial abuse against Romelu Lukaku.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United striker put his finger on his lips and told fans to “shut up” after converting a last minute penalty.

He did that after he received monkey chants all through the match from Juventus fans.

Roc Nation only confirmed the chants later on Tuesday as they said that neither Inter or Juve made any mention of them post-match.

However, Italy’s top division in a statement released on Wednesday condemned the act saying: “Serie A strongly condemns all instances of racism and any form of discrimination.”

“A few people in the stands can’t ruin football and don’t represent all the fans at the stadium… Serie A clubs will, as they always have, be able to find the individuals responsible and ban them for life from their grounds.”

Rock Nation Sports International president Michael Yormark on Tuesday demanded for an apology from Juventus for “hostile and disgusting racist abuse” towards Lukaku from fans “before, during and after the penalty.”

He further added that: “The Italian authorities must use this opportunity to tackle racism, rather than punish the victim of the abuse.”
