Chelsea sacked Graham Potter after it was obvious the club’s hope of making it to Europe next season is regressing off the realms of possibility.

Chelsea were trapped on the 11th position on the Premier League table after suffering a shock 0-2 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

The loss forced Todd Boehly’s hand to issue marching orders for the under-pressure gaffer.

Despite his commitment for a long-term engagement with Graham Potter, Todd Boehly was forced to employ the axe after an unbearable and inconsistent Premier League run.

He was deemed as the worst Chelsea manager in Chelsea history with the least win percentage and points per game.

In his 22 Premier League games as Chelsea manager, he managed only 7 wins and 7 draws and eight draws.

Potter recorded a point per game of 1.21 against his 1.94 recorded by his successor Thomas Tuchel.

After Graham Potter assumed the reins as Chelsea manager, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was one of the high-profile stars that fell out of favor with the former Brighton manager.

Shortly after joining the club from Barcelona in August, Thomas Tuchel was sacked and Graham Potter recruited into the club.

Under Graham Potter, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struggled for minutes and was subsequently axed from the Blues’ Champions League squad.

He last played for the club on February in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur and was mostly left to rot on the bench, freezed off Chelsea’s starting eleven.

Against Leeds United, Aubameyang was an unused substitute on the bench. He did not make Chelsea’s squad in their last three games against Everton, Leicester City, and Aston Villa.

Now, the news of Graham Potter’s dismissal seemed to have resonated well with the Gabon international. He was spotted registering his approval for the sack.

Auba went under the club’s Instagram statement annoucing the sack of Potter to like the post. His gesture underscores his disapproval of Graham Potter’s Chelsea setup that freezed him out of the squad.

Most pundits attributed Chelsea struggles in the Premier League to lack of a frontline striker – a role that would have been perfectly handled by Aubameyang who had played for Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, and Barcelona as frontline attacker.

Despite his experience, Graham Potter freezed out Auba apparently because he did not fit into his style and pattern of play.

Bruno Saltor is interim Chelsea manager and the Gabon international will be expecting a sharp turn in his Chelsea misfortunes under Saltor.

Meanwhile, he has been linked to a return to Barcelona but there are reports Chelsea are not ready to sanction such move in the summer.
