The Spaniard shared the infamous meme of the former Manchester United’s manager after the hard-fought win over Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

From the start, Manchester United dominated proceedings in the game and were heading for a win, having outclassed their visitors.

After just six minutes of play, the Red Devils’ heavy pressure yielded result after Hughes mistakenly handled Marcus Rashford’s cross into the box.

After VAR check, Manchester United were awarded a spot kick and Bruno Fernandes stepped up to convert it by stroking it into the bottom corner to give the Red Devils the lead.

After a deserved early lead, the resurgent Erik Ten Hag side continued to mount pressure hoping to hit the back of the net again, but Crystal Palace held them off and Manchester United took the narrow 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, Manchester United lost their bearing and Crystal Palace made incredible effort to pull a comeback with an equaliser.

However, the Red Devils doubled the lead in the 62nd minute after Erik Ten Hag took off Wout Weghorst and brought on Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho provided an assist for Marcus Rashford, who poked in his cross to double the lead for the Red Devils.

After Manchester United’s second goal, a melee broke out between players from both sides. Casemiro was captured in a VAR footage choking Hughes with his two hands.

A careful look on the clash between the two players during the melee shows Casemiro having his two hands around the throat of Hughes.

He was issued a straight red card after the incident. Manchester United played with 10-man and had the two goals deficit reduced with Schlupp’s 76th-minute strike.

After the game, Erik Ten Hag admitted “Casemiro crossed the line” with the attack on Hughes, but added Jordan Ayew should have been redcarded for his challenge on Fred during the melee.

Erik Ten Hag called for consistency from match officials.

After the game, David De Gea toed the line of Erik Ten Hag, sharing a clip of Jose Mourinho’s viral 2014 meme.

The clip came from an interview given by Mourinho back in 2014, after the then-Chelsea manager was sent off following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Mourinho had been asked post match about red cards given to Willian and Ramires in the defeat, with the Portuguese manager famously declining to comment to avoid being sanctioned.

‘If I speak, I am in big trouble, and I don’t want to be in big trouble,’ Mourinho said.

De Gea’s repetition of Jose Mourinho’s meme delineates his disapproval of the referee’s decision to sent off Casemiro in the game.

Speaking in post match press conference, De Gea said it was tough playing 10-man after Casemiro’s red card but praised the team for a show of character throughout the game.

‘It was tough, especially after the red card”, he noted.

After the win, Manchester United climbed up to third on the table above Newcastle United.
