Erling Haaland, a teammate of Kevin De Bruyne at Man City, has been given the go-ahead to match or perhaps top the goal-scoring performances of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The former Borussia Dortmund player who joined Manchester City in the summer is succeeding and is the inspiration behind the team’s quest for trophy this year.
De Bruyne thinks Haaland has an advantage because of his fixation with scoring goals and that he may finish his career with 800 career goals, which would put him on par with Messi (793 goals) and Ronaldo (819 goals).
The Norwegian scored against Liverpool in the 3-2 Carabao Cup victory on Thursday, bringing his season total to 24, continuing his incredible start to life at Manchester City.
In just 19 games for City, Haaland has scored an astonishing 24 goals thanks to a machine-like start to life in England. De Bruyne has contributed to four of those goals.
In his senior professional career, Haaland has played for Byrne, Molde, Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City. He has scored 179 goals in 219 appearances.
If he remains in shape and continues to accomplish all his potentials, he can probably reach 600, 700, or 800 career goals.
“A top-tier striker is Erling Haaland. I don’t think Haaland is all that different from most folks. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and is just an ordinary football player like everyone else,” De Bruyne said.
Haaland will need to score a staggering 44 goals per season until he is 35 years old if he wants to catch up with Ronaldo in goals scored. Although that would be a remarkable accomplishment, given his recent performance, one can’t rule it out.
De Bruyne thinks Haaland has the professionalism to succeed at the highest levels and that he also takes time off from the field to enjoy life.
With 819 goals, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the all-time scoring list. His former adversary Lionel Messi is not far behind with 793.
De Bruyne, who has a fantastic relationship with Erling Haaland at the Etihad, has already observed enough to believe that his friend will complete his career in that type of click.
