Premier League Teams That Earned Big From The 2022 World Cup

Premier League clubs like other clubs across the world earned cash for sending players to the World Cup as part of the governing body’s club benefit program.

For every club that sends their individual players to Qatar, they will be entitled to $10,000. Those players who made it to the finals or third place play-off earned a whopping $370,000.

For those who made it to the semi-finals, they are entitled to $320,000. The quarterfinal will see players make $280,000 for their respective clubs, while in the Round of 16, clubs are entitled to $220,000 per player.

Below are the Premier League clubs that earned big for sending their players to the World Cup.

1 Manchester City (£3.2M)

Julian Alvarez (Argentina): he brings the largest amount to the club for winning the title.

Phil Foden, John Stones, Kyle Walker, Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish: made it to the quarter-finals with England where they lost to France.

Kevin De Bryune (Belgium): Failed to qualify for the Knockout stage after failing to beat Croatia.

Rodri, Aymeric Laporte (Spain): were Eliminated from the Tournament on penalties by Morocco.

Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva  (Portugal): were eliminated in the Quarter Finals by Morocco.

Ederson (Brazil): He didn’t make a single appearance in the World Cup but his team were eliminated by Croatia in the Quarter Finals.

Manuel Akanji (Switzerland): Failed to qualify for the knockout stage after a 2-2 draw with Serbia.

Nathan Ake (Netherlands): Eliminated by Argentina in the Quarter finals

Ilkay Gundogan (Germany): Failed to qualify for the Knockout stage after Japan defeated Spain

Manchester City former players Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus will also bring in an amount worth £295,000.

2. Chelsea (£2.3M)

Eduardo Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal): Got knockout of the Tournament by England in the Round of 16.

Thiago Silva (Brazil): Lost on penalty shoot out in the Quarter Finals of the World Cup to Croatia

Cesar Azpilicueta (Spain): Eliminated by Morocco on Penalties in the Round of 16.

Denis Zakaria (Switzerland): Failed to qualify for the Round of 16.

Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher, Raheem Sterling (England): Eliminated by France in the Quarter Finals.

Christian Pulisic (USA): One of the outstanding player of the tournament. He scored a goal in the World Cup but could not save his team from Netherlands defeat.

Kai Havertz (Germany): His two goals were not enough to qualify Germany for the Round of 16.

Hakim Ziyech (Morocco): The winger made history but failed to help Morocco beat France and Croatia.

Mateo Kovacic (Croatia): Had an impressive performance in the World Cup and won the Third place with Croatia.

3. Manchester United (£2.2M)

Christian Eriksen (Denmark): Failed to qualify for the Knockout Stage

Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford (England): Eliminated by France in the Quarter Finals by two goals to one.

Facundo Pellistri (Uruguay): The Young starlet failed to qualify for the knockout stage even after defeating Ghana.

Lisandro Martinez (Argentina): He won the World Cup but was an unused substitute against France.

Former Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo earned the club up to £100,000 despite the termination of his contract.

Antony, Casemiro, Fred (Brazil): They got to the quarterfinals but were eliminated by Croatia.

Tyrell Malacia (Netherlands): The left back failed to get enough playing time under Louis Van Gaal in the World Cup.

Raphael Varane (France): The defender who is instrumental to France’s success as a finalist failed to stop Lionel Messi from winning the tournament.

Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandez (Portugal): The right back and the attacking midfielder could not prevent Morocco from qualifying for the semi-finals of the World Cup.

William Saliba (France): The defender didn’t make a single appearance for the team but is a finalist.

Matt Turner (USA): The Americans got to the Round of 16 and lost to the Netherlands by three goals to one.

Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, and Bukayo Saka (England): White didn’t partake in any football activities despite going to Qatar with England; Ramsdale also sat on the bench throughout the tournament. 

Saka played an important role in the success of the England team. He scored two goals in the tournament.

Thomas Partey (Ghana): He couldn’t replicate the same beautiful and skillful style of play we saw at Arsenal.

Wolves (£1.1M)
